What's Included
A complete SEO migration service
Every stage of the migration covered - from pre-launch audit to post-live monitoring.
Pre-Migration SEO Audit
A thorough audit of your current site's SEO performance before a single URL changes. I establish baselines for rankings, traffic, and crawl health so we have a clear benchmark to protect - and recover against if needed.
Redirect Mapping
Every URL on your current site mapped to its new destination - with no chains, no loops, and no dead ends. A complete redirect map is the single most important deliverable in any migration. Getting this wrong is how sites lose 50% of their traffic overnight.
URL Structure Planning
If your migration involves changing URL structure - removing category prefixes, cleaning up parameters, or restructuring content silos - I plan the new architecture to preserve authority and improve crawl efficiency at the same time.
Technical Implementation Review
Before go-live I review the staging environment for crawlability issues, noindex tags left in place, missing canonical tags, broken internal links, and misconfigured redirects - the most common causes of post-migration ranking drops.
Post-Migration Monitoring
The work doesn't stop at launch. I monitor rankings, crawl errors, redirect performance, and Search Console data for 4–8 weeks after go-live to catch any issues early - before a minor problem becomes a significant traffic loss.
Recovery Planning
If rankings do dip post-migration - which sometimes happens even with the best preparation - I have a structured recovery playbook ready. Quick identification of the cause, targeted fixes, and a clear timeline for getting back to baseline.
Why Work With Me
Migrations are high-stakes. Experience matters.
SEO migrations are one of the most technically demanding tasks in search optimisation. The margin for error is small and the consequences of getting it wrong - months of lost traffic and revenue - can far outweigh the cost of getting it right first time.
With 18+ years of experience, I've guided businesses through complex migrations including full domain rebrands, platform moves from WordPress to custom stacks, and large-scale URL restructuring projects. I work directly with your development team to make sure the SEO requirements are implemented correctly - not approximated.

SEO Migration FAQs
What is an SEO migration?
An SEO migration is any significant change to a website that affects how search engines crawl and index it. This includes moving to a new domain, changing your URL structure, switching CMS platforms (e.g. from WordPress to a custom build), redesigning your site, or moving from HTTP to HTTPS. Without proper planning, any of these changes can cause significant - and sometimes permanent - drops in organic rankings and traffic.
What types of migrations do you handle?
I handle all common migration types: domain-to-domain moves (rebrands), subdomain to root domain migrations, HTTP to HTTPS (if not yet done), CMS platform changes, URL restructuring and slug cleanup, site redesigns with structural changes, and international/hreflang migrations. If you're unsure whether your planned change counts as an SEO migration, get in touch - it's always better to check.
How long does an SEO migration take?
The pre-migration audit and redirect mapping typically takes 2–3 weeks for most sites, though larger sites with thousands of URLs take longer. Implementation review happens in the week before go-live. Post-migration monitoring runs for 4–8 weeks after launch. The total engagement is usually 8–12 weeks, though this varies significantly by site size and complexity.
Will my rankings drop after the migration?
A small, temporary fluctuation is normal as Google re-crawls and re-indexes your new URLs - typically 2–4 weeks. With thorough preparation, most of your rankings should return to baseline or better within that window. The risk of a serious, lasting drop is dramatically reduced when the redirect mapping is complete, technically correct, and the new site passes a pre-launch technical review.
Do I need an SEO specialist for a migration?
If your site generates meaningful organic traffic, yes. Developers handle the technical implementation, but they typically don't have visibility into which URLs are ranking, which have link equity worth preserving, or how to structure redirects for maximum SEO value. The cost of proper migration support is almost always a fraction of the revenue lost from a traffic drop that takes months to recover.
Can you work with my existing development team?
Absolutely. Most migrations involve collaboration with a dev team. I provide the SEO deliverables - audit, redirect map, URL plan, pre-launch checklist - and work alongside your developers to make sure everything is implemented correctly. I'm used to bridging the gap between SEO requirements and technical execution.
